Day 20: Community Involvement

Welcome to Day 20 of our 30-day journey through Purpose Driven Legacy. Today, we will explore the importance of community involvement in building a legacy. As Christians, we are called to be active participants in our communities, sharing God’s love and making a positive impact. Our involvement in the community is a reflection of our faith and an essential part of our legacy.

Biblical Foundation for Community Involvement

The Bible emphasizes the importance of being engaged in our communities and helping those in need. Jesus’ ministry was marked by His deep compassion for people and His active involvement in their lives. Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (KJV). Our good works in the community bring glory to God and demonstrate His love.

Why Community Involvement Matters

  1. Reflects God’s Love: Our actions within the community reflect God’s love and compassion. By serving others, we become the hands and feet of Jesus, showing His love in practical ways. 1 John 3:18 reminds us, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth” (KJV).
  2. Builds Relationships: Engaging in community activities helps build meaningful relationships. These connections create opportunities for sharing our faith and encouraging others. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (KJV).
  3. Meets Needs: Community involvement allows us to identify and meet the needs of others. By addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, we can make a significant impact on people’s lives. Galatians 6:10 says, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith” (KJV).

Ways to Get Involved in Your Community

  1. Volunteer at Local Charities

Find local charities and organizations that align with your values and volunteer your time and skills. This could include food banks, shelters, or mentoring programs. Proverbs 19:17 says, “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again” (KJV).

  1. Support Community Events

Participate in and support community events such as fundraisers, clean-up days, or local festivals. These events are excellent opportunities to build relationships and show support for your community. Romans 12:13 encourages us, “Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality” (KJV).

  1. Join a Local Church or Community Group

Be an active member of your local church or community group. These groups provide a platform for collective action and greater impact. Acts 2:42 says, “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers” (KJV).

  1. Offer Your Skills and Talents

Use your God-given skills and talents to benefit your community. Whether it’s through teaching, organizing, or providing professional services, your unique contributions can make a difference. 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (KJV).

  1. Pray for Your Community

Regularly pray for your community, its leaders, and its residents. Ask God to guide, protect, and bless them. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 encourages us, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty” (KJV).
