Day 3: Grace as the Foundation of Good Works

Scripture Focus: Titus 2:11-15

Introduction

Many people think of Christianity as a set of rules—things you must do or avoid to be considered a “good” person. But Paul reminds Titus that the Christian life isn’t about earning God’s favor. Instead, it’s about grace—God’s unmerited favor that transforms us from the inside out. When we truly understand God’s grace, it compels us to live in a way that honors Him.

The Power of Grace (Titus 2:11)

Paul begins by saying, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people.” Grace is not something we achieve; it’s something God freely gives through Jesus Christ. His grace doesn’t just save us—it also teaches us how to live.

Grace Trains Us to Live Differently (Titus 2:12-13)

Paul explains that grace “trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.”

Renouncing sin – Grace calls us to leave behind anything that pulls us away from God.
Living with self-control – Grace helps us resist temptation and make wise choices.
Pursuing godliness – Grace leads us into a life that reflects Christ’s character.
Looking forward to Christ’s return – Grace reminds us that our ultimate hope is in Jesus.

Grace is not a license to sin; it is the very thing that empowers us to live differently.

Christ’s Sacrifice and Our Transformation (Titus 2:14)

Paul explains that Jesus “gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.”

Redeemed from sin – Jesus’ sacrifice sets us free from the power of sin.
Purified for His purpose – We are no longer defined by our past, but by God’s grace.
Zealous for good works – Grace doesn’t just change us; it fuels our passion to serve God.

Application: How Can We Live in Grace?

  1. Receive God’s Grace Daily – We don’t outgrow our need for grace; we grow deeper in it.
  2. Let Grace Transform Your Actions – Allow God’s grace to shape how you live.
  3. Focus on Christ’s Return – Keep an eternal perspective as you walk in grace.
  4. Be Zealous for Good Works – Let gratitude for grace motivate you to serve God and others.

Final Thought

Grace is more than a theological concept—it’s the heartbeat of the Christian life. As you reflect on Titus 2:11-15, ask yourself: Am I living in a way that reflects the grace I have received?

Reflection Question:

How has God’s grace changed the way you live, and how can you grow in that grace today?
