Day 10: Overcoming Obstacles
Welcome to Day 10 of our 30-day journey through Purpose Driven Legacy. Today, we’re going to explore the importance of overcoming obstacles on the journey to leaving a legacy. As Christians, we know that challenges and trials are a part of life, but with God’s help, we can overcome them and continue moving forward in our purpose.
The Reality of Obstacles
Obstacles are inevitable. Whether they come in the form of personal setbacks, external challenges, or spiritual struggles, we all face difficulties that can hinder our progress. However, the Bible reminds us that we are not alone in these struggles. John 16:33 says, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (KJV). This assurance from Jesus gives us hope and strength to persevere.
Why Overcoming Obstacles Matters
- Strengthens Faith: Overcoming obstacles strengthens our faith in God. Each challenge we face is an opportunity to trust in His promises and rely on His strength. James 1:2-4 encourages us, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing” (KJV).
- Builds Character: Facing and overcoming difficulties builds character and resilience. It shapes us into the people God created us to be. Romans 5:3-4 states, “And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope” (KJV).
- Fulfills God’s Purpose: Overcoming obstacles allows us to continue fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. It ensures that we remain on the path He has set for us, making a lasting impact through our faith and actions.
Strategies for Overcoming Obstacles
When faced with obstacles, it’s important to turn to God and seek His guidance. Here are some strategies to help you overcome challenges:
- Pray for Strength and Wisdom: Turn to God in prayer, asking for the strength and wisdom to navigate the challenges you face. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (KJV).
- Trust in God’s Plan: Remember that God has a plan for your life, even when things seem difficult. Trust that He is working all things together for your good. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (KJV).
- Lean on Your Community: Seek support from your Christian community. Share your struggles with trusted friends or mentors who can provide encouragement and pray for you. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend” (KJV).
- Stay Focused on Your Purpose: Keep your eyes on the bigger picture and your God-given purpose. Remind yourself of why you started and the impact you want to make. Hebrews 12:1-2 encourages us, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (KJV).
- Embrace God’s Promises: Hold onto the promises God has given us in His Word. Let His promises be your anchor and source of hope. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (KJV).
