Day 15: Creating a Legacy Plan
Welcome to Day 15 of our 30-day journey through Purpose Driven Legacy. Today, we will explore practical steps for creating a legacy plan that aligns with your Christian values and God-given purpose. A legacy plan helps ensure that your actions and decisions reflect your faith and make a lasting impact on future generations.
Why Create a Legacy Plan?
Creating a legacy plan is essential for living intentionally and purposefully. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established” (KJV). By planning your legacy, you commit your actions to God and align your life with His will.
Steps to Create a Legacy Plan
- Seek God’s Guidance
Begin with prayer, asking God for wisdom and guidance as you create your legacy plan. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” (KJV). Trust that God will provide the insight you need to plan effectively.
- Define Your Values and Purpose
Reflect on your core values and God-given purpose. What principles are most important to you? How has God uniquely called you to serve Him and others? Proverbs 19:21 states, “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand” (KJV). Align your legacy with God’s counsel and your divine calling.
- Set Long-Term Goals
Break down your vision into long-term goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). These goals should reflect your values and purpose. Philippians 3:14 encourages us, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (KJV). Set goals that move you toward your high calling in Christ.
- Identify Key Actions
Identify the key actions you need to take to achieve your goals. Consider what steps you can take daily, weekly, and monthly to make progress. Colossians 3:23 says, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” (KJV). Approach each action with dedication and as an act of service to the Lord.
- Allocate Resources
Consider the resources—time, talents, and finances—that you will need to fulfill your legacy plan. Be a good steward of what God has entrusted to you. 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (KJV).
- Create a Timeline
Develop a timeline for your goals and actions. Establish deadlines to keep yourself accountable and motivated. Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (KJV). Trust in God’s timing as you work toward your legacy.
- Seek Accountability
Share your legacy plan with trusted friends, family, or mentors who can provide support and hold you accountable. Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend” (KJV). Surround yourself with a community that encourages and challenges you.
- Review and Adjust
Regularly review your legacy plan and make adjustments as needed. Stay open to God’s guidance and be willing to adapt your plan to His will. Proverbs 16:9 reminds us, “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps” (KJV). Allow God to direct your steps as you move forward.
Living Out Your Legacy Plan
Creating a legacy plan is just the beginning. Living it out requires commitment, perseverance, and faith. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (KJV). Stay committed to your plan and trust that God will bring it to fruition in His perfect timing.
