Day 6: Living to Please God
Key Scripture:
“As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.”
— 1 Thessalonians 4:1
Reflection: A Life That Pleases God
Living to please God is the highest calling of a believer. Paul acknowledges the Thessalonians’ efforts to live in a way that honors God but urges them to continue growing in their faith and obedience. This call to “do this more and more” reminds us that the Christian life is one of continual progress. No matter where we are in our journey, there’s always room to grow in living out our faith.
Pleasing God isn’t about following a checklist of rules—it’s about aligning our hearts with His will. It’s about cultivating a relationship with Him, trusting in His guidance, and letting His Word shape our decisions and actions. When we live to please God, our lives reflect His goodness and draw others to Him.
In today’s world, where it’s easy to be influenced by the opinions and pressures of others, focusing on pleasing God keeps us grounded. It shifts our perspective from seeking approval from people to living for an audience of One.
Living Out Loud: Applying the Teaching
Living to please God requires intentionality. It’s about asking, in every situation, “Does this honor God? Does this reflect His love and truth?” It also means being open to His Spirit’s conviction, allowing Him to refine us in areas where we may fall short.
Ask yourself: Are there areas in my life where I’m seeking to please others more than God? How can I align my actions and decisions more closely with His will?
Practical Application Questions:
- What does it mean to you personally to live in a way that pleases God?
- Reflect on your daily routines and decisions. Are there areas where you can be more intentional about honoring God?
- Who in your life can help hold you accountable to living a life that pleases God?
Closing Prayer:
Father, thank You for calling me to live a life that pleases You. Help me to seek Your will in every area of my life and to make choices that bring You glory. Give me the courage to honor You, even when it’s difficult or unpopular. Transform my heart so that my deepest desire is to please You in all I do. Amen.
