Day 4: The Mystery of Christ Revealed

Focus: Christ in Us, the Hope of Glory
Key Passage: Colossians 1:24-29

As we continue our study of Colossians, today we reflect on a profound truth that Paul reveals to the Colossian believers—the mystery of Christ. This mystery, once hidden for ages, is now made known to all who believe: “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). Understanding this mystery is key to living a life filled with purpose and hope.

Paul’s Joy in Suffering

Paul begins this section by speaking about his own sufferings. He tells the Colossians that he rejoices in what he has suffered for their sake (Colossians 1:24). Paul wasn’t rejoicing because suffering is pleasant, but because he understood the greater purpose behind his hardships. His suffering was for the sake of Christ’s body, the Church. Paul was willing to endure persecution, imprisonment, and hardship because it furthered the gospel.

This mindset challenges us to see our own trials in a new light. While we may not face persecution as Paul did, we all encounter difficulties. When we face these trials with faith, knowing that God is working through them, we can also experience joy and hope, even in suffering.

The Mystery Now Revealed

Paul goes on to talk about a mystery that has been hidden for generations but is now revealed to God’s people (Colossians 1:26). What is this mystery? It’s the glorious truth that Christ is in us—the hope of glory. This mystery is not just for the Jews but for the Gentiles as well, meaning that everyone who believes in Jesus can experience this life-transforming truth.

The idea of “Christ in you” changes everything. It means that Christ isn’t just a distant Savior or a historical figure we read about. He is present within us, living in us through His Spirit, and transforming us from the inside out. This reality empowers us to live in the fullness of God’s will, knowing that we are never alone, and Christ is with us in every moment.

The Hope of Glory

The phrase “the hope of glory” points to the future. It reminds us that this world is not our final home and that one day, we will share in Christ’s glory. This hope sustains us through difficult times and gives us a sense of purpose. No matter what happens in this life, our future is secure in Christ. We can look forward to the day when we will be with Him in glory, and this hope gives us the strength to endure trials and remain faithful.

Paul’s Mission to Proclaim Christ

Paul closes this section by explaining his mission: to proclaim Christ, “admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ” (Colossians 1:28). Paul was committed to helping others grow in their relationship with Christ, knowing that spiritual maturity is the goal for every believer. This is a reminder that as followers of Jesus, we are also called to help others grow in their faith, whether through teaching, mentoring, or simply walking alongside them in their spiritual journey.

Reflection

Think about the reality that Christ is living in you. How does this truth impact the way you live your daily life? Do you recognize His presence in your decisions, your challenges, and your victories? How does the hope of glory shape the way you approach difficulties or hardships?

Application

Today, reflect on the mystery of “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Consider these questions:

  • How can I live with greater awareness of Christ’s presence in my life?
  • In what ways can I share the hope of glory with others who are struggling or feeling hopeless?

Call to Action

Spend some time today thanking God for the incredible reality that Christ lives in you. Ask Him to help you live with greater awareness of His presence and to share that hope with others who need encouragement.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the incredible truth that Christ lives in me, and that His presence gives me hope and strength. Help me to live each day with an awareness of this reality, trusting in Your power at work within me. Teach me how to share this hope of glory with others, especially those who need to know Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
