Welcome to Day 13 of our journey through “Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus: An Inspirational Study on Luke” by Dustin Royer. Today, we witness a remarkable event in Jesus’ life—the Transfiguration, where His divine glory is revealed to a select group of disciples.
In Luke 9:28-36, we read about this extraordinary moment. Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray. As He is praying, something incredible happens:
The Transfiguration
“As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. They spoke about His departure, which He was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.” (Luke 9:29-31 NIV)
Peter and his companions are very sleepy, but when they become fully awake, they see Jesus’ glory and the two men standing with Him. As Moses and Elijah are leaving, Peter says to Jesus:
“Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” (Luke 9:33 NIV)
Peter does not fully understand what he is saying. While he is speaking, a cloud appears and covers them, and they are afraid as they enter the cloud. A voice comes from the cloud, saying:
“This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to Him.” (Luke 9:35 NIV)
When the voice has spoken, they find that Jesus is alone. The disciples keep this to themselves and do not tell anyone at that time what they have seen.
Key Lessons
- Divine Confirmation: The Transfiguration is a powerful affirmation of Jesus’ divine nature and His mission. The presence of Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets, signifies that Jesus is the fulfillment of both.
- God’s Voice: God’s declaration, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to Him,” underscores the importance of heeding Jesus’ teachings and following Him.
- Foretaste of Glory: This event provides the disciples—and us—a glimpse of the glory that awaits beyond Jesus’ suffering and crucifixion, affirming the hope of His resurrection and the ultimate victory of His Kingdom.
Reflection:
- Read Luke 9:28-36: Reflect on the significance of the Transfiguration and the appearance of Moses and Elijah with Jesus.
- Consider: How does this revelation of Jesus’ divine glory impact your understanding of His identity and mission? What does God’s command to “listen to Him” mean for your daily life and faith?
Prayer/Action:
Pray for a deeper revelation of Jesus’ glory and a heart that is attentive to His voice. Reflect on how you can more fully listen to and follow Jesus in your everyday life. Consider spending extra time in prayer and meditation, seeking to experience the presence and glory of God in a fresh and powerful way.
Tomorrow, we will reflect on the passion and resurrection of Jesus, the cornerstone events of our faith. Let’s continue walking together, inspired by the majestic revelation of Jesus’ divine nature.
Stay blessed, and see you tomorrow!
